Advising and Counseling

A strong faculty advisory system, supported by professional counselors, offers academic guidance and fosters emotional and social growth.

The Advising program at The Albany Academies allow students to meet on a regular basis with a faculty member who knows and cares about them. The advisor develops a rapport with the student and serves as a mentor, with a foundation built on trust and strengthened through personal interactions with the advisee.

The Advisor also develops connections with parents and helps students to succeed in all areas. Their responsibilities include:

Student Support Services

Communicating

school rules, policies & procedures, collecting advisees’ grades each trimester, writing advisory comments on report cards, conducting formal conferences with advisee parents/guardians at least once each year, or more as needed, and keeping an up-to-date folder on each advisee; please remember that the advisor is the adult contact on campus for the student and the parent(s).
Providing

an environment that will foster bonding within an advisory group so that students feel accepted and valued and known by their teacher and peers.
Helping

students cope with academic and social/emotional concerns and setting goals that will facilitate positive school experiences as well as improving home to school communication and relationships.
Tracking

student academic progress through graduation; it is the advisor’s responsibility to ensure that his/her advisees are registered for the required courses and maintaining records of community service hours.
Encouraging

student awareness of good citizenship through providing opportunities for meaningful contributions to their school and communities.
